Who we are
StoreCanary (storecanary.io) is a technical SEO monitoring service for Shopify stores. It is operated by LAMOTTE LLC, a limited liability company organized under the laws of the State of New Mexico (USA), registered address 1209 Mountain Road Pl NE, STE N, Albuquerque, NM 87110, USA, EIN 33-3557194. This policy explains what data we collect when you use our website and monitoring service, and how we handle it.
Data we collect
- The URL of the store you ask us to scan (yours or one you're authorized to monitor)
- Your account email address, used for login, alerts, and billing communications
- Basic technical logs (IP address, timestamps, request metadata) needed to run and secure the service
Payment details are handled directly by our payment processor, Stripe (Stripe, Inc. and its affiliates β see stripe.com/privacy). We never see or store your full card number.
How the scanner works
StoreCanary only reads what is publicly visible on your storefront β product pages, sitemap, robots.txt, structured data β exactly as Google sees your store. We never request access to your Shopify admin, never install an app in your store, and never ask for API keys or OAuth permissions. Every scan is read-only and limited to publicly reachable URLs.
No advertising trackers
We do not use third-party advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or cross-site tracking scripts. We may use a small number of strictly functional, first-party cookies needed to keep you signed in. We do not sell or share your personal data with data brokers or ad networks.
How we use your data
- Send scan reports and alert emails
- Operate, maintain, and improve the monitoring service
- Respond to support requests
- Meet our legal and accounting obligations (e.g. invoicing)
Where your data is hosted
Your data is hosted in Europe: application data with OVH SAS (France) and email/business tools with Zoho (EU region). Some of our service providers β such as our payment processor and analytics tools β are based outside the EU and may process data as part of a transfer outside the EU/EEA. Where this happens, it is governed by Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard recognized under the GDPR.
Data retention
Account data and scan history are kept for as long as your account is active. If you close your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain records (such as invoices) for longer.
Your rights (GDPR)
Under the GDPR and French data protection law, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port your personal data, and to object to its processing. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@getstorecanary.com β we respond within 30 days. If you believe your rights are not respected, you may also lodge a complaint with the CNIL (cnil.fr).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified by email or announced on this page.
