Scan your Shopify store for Google visibility issues
Find the failures that never show up in your Shopify admin: a product quietly set to noindex, structured data broken by a theme update, a price or stock value that disagrees with what Google reads.

What a Google product visibility scan is. A read-only audit that fetches a store's public product pages the way a search engine does, then compares three things that are supposed to agree: what the page shows a shopper, what its structured data declares to Google, and what the store's robots, canonical and sitemap directives permit. Where they disagree, products lose their rich results, get disapproved in Merchant Center, or drop out of the index entirely, while the store keeps looking perfectly healthy from the inside.
How the scan works, in three steps
- 1. You enter your store URL. Nothing to install, no OAuth, no password, no code added to your theme.
- 2. We read your store the way Google does. Public product pages, their JSON-LD, robots directives, canonical tags and sitemap, at a strict maximum of 2 requests per second.
- 3. You get the report. Every finding states what is wrong, how to confirm it yourself with Google's own tools, and the step-by-step Shopify fix.
What we check, named before you scan
More than 90 individual checks, grouped into eight families. Every one of them maps to a documented explanation, a self-verification method and a fix, so no alert ever arrives without the way to act on it.

How often this actually happens
Measured on our own scans, across more than 90,000 Shopify product pages in the US, UK, Canada and Australia, reading each store's full catalog rather than a sample:
- Roughly 46% of stores had at least one critical Google visibility issue.
- Roughly 73% had at least one critical or warning-level issue.
- 43 distinct failure codes showed up in the wild.
- The most common criticals: a
noindexdirective on product pages, and a price of zero in structured data.
The rate is remarkably stable across markets: it sits near half of all stores in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, and somewhat lower in Canada.
Why Search Console and Merchant Center do not catch this first
Both are excellent at telling you what has already happened. Search Console reports an exclusion after Google has acted on it, typically weeks later, and Merchant Center tells you a product was disapproved, not which app rewrote its price. Neither one compares what your storefront serves against what your structured data claims, because neither one is looking at your store from the outside on a schedule.
That gap is where this whole class of failure lives: the bug belongs to no single system. Shopify is behaving correctly, the theme is behaving correctly, the app is behaving correctly, and the combination produces a page Google reads differently from the one your customers see. Nothing is broken enough for anything to raise an error.
Who this is for
- Shopify merchants running paid traffic. A disapproved product stops your ads, and the Merchant Center notice rarely names the cause.
- Stores with a catalog that changes weekly. Bulk edits and CSV imports are the most common way a
noindexor a zero price gets in. - Anyone who just changed theme or installed an app. That is when structured data breaks, and it breaks silently.
- Agencies and freelancers. A scan is a fast, checkable second opinion on a client store you did not build.
- Multi-market stores. hreflang and currency mismatches are almost impossible to audit by hand across markets.
Key takeaways
- Most Shopify Google visibility failures are silent: the admin looks healthy while Google has stopped showing the products.
- On full-catalog scans covering more than 90,000 product pages, roughly 46% of stores had at least one critical issue and roughly 73% had at least one issue of any severity.
- The failures live between systems, so no single platform raises an error for them.
- A scan is a snapshot. Because these issues are introduced by theme updates, app installs and bulk edits, the value is in re-checking, not in auditing once.
- The scan is read-only, requires no app and no admin access, and never modifies anything on the store.
Questions we get asked
Do I need to install an app to scan my store?
No. The scan reads your public storefront only, exactly as Google does. There is no Shopify app, no OAuth, no admin access and no code to add to your theme. Nothing on your store is ever modified.
How is this different from Google Search Console?
Search Console reports what Google has already decided, often weeks after the fact, and it does not tell you which theme or app caused it. The scan compares what your storefront actually serves against what your structured data claims, so it catches failures that live between Shopify, a theme and an app, before Google acts on them.
Is it safe to scan my store?
Yes. The scan is read-only and only requests pages any visitor or search engine can already see. We cap our own crawl rate at 2 requests per second so a scan never puts meaningful load on your store.
What does the scan actually check?
More than 90 individual checks across eight families: indexability, product structured data, canonical tags, international hreflang, catalog and sitemap health, site-level signals, on-page basics and Core Web Vitals. Every check maps to a documented explanation, a way to verify it yourself and a step-by-step fix.
Does a scan replace ongoing monitoring?
No. A scan is a snapshot. These failures are usually introduced by a theme update, an app install or a bulk product edit, so a store that is clean today can break next week with no visible symptom. The scan is the starting point; the nightly comparison is what catches the change.

Each of these is a real failure mode we scan for, explained end to end with the fix:

- priceValidUntil: why Google shows a stale price
- Merchant Center price mismatch on Shopify
- Review stars disappeared from Google
- Shopify products blocked by robots.txt
